What are the benefits of mobile internet?

Mobile internet technology allows you to do all the things you usually use your broadband connection for whilst you’re on the move and away from home.

Mobile broadband is a great option for people who travel a lot or have a long commute to work and need to make the best use of their time. It’s possible to hook up to the internet wherever you are, so long as you’re in an area with good coverage.

Mobile broadband is also increasingly popular amongst subscribers who don’t have a fixed residence - like students. This is because there’s no need to have a fixed phone line sorted.

By far, one of the most positive cases for utilising mobile broadband is that there are plenty of pay-as-you-go options available. This means that you aren’t tied in to a lengthy contract and you’re able to top us your account with credits depending on how often you think you’re going to use it - just like you can with a pay-as-you-go mobile phone. If you’re not a regular internet user then this could be a good way of saving money - only topping up your account when you need to.

If you aren’t subscribed to a mobile broadband service you can still make use of mobile internet if you have a laptop with WiFi hotspots. These are areas in public space where you’re giving the opportunity to hook up to the internet through a shared connection. Some WiFi hotspots in areas like cafes or libraries are free to use, whereas others require you to pay for your online time by acquiring a password. It’s worth looking out for signs for free WiFi internet - an internet cafe would do the same job, but they’re also more expensive and you don’t have the luxury of working on your own computer.

    Hi,
I use Skype at home a lot on my fixed connection. Will the various cards and modems still allow this, or is a 3G broadband connection still more limited?

When you are going to friends and family that do not have computers, (yes some are still without computers) you can take the laptop along and allow them to get the benefits of cheaper goods online.

I love the idea and would definitely subscribe if it weren’t for the cap - I am not a fan of having a 10gig cap as I would use this as my primary internet and do frequently watch online episodes instead of watching TV!

I wholehearted agree with Steve,if the usage was unlimited,I would definately subscribe, until that day,I`ll stay with my current provider, whose package suits my needs,at present.Packages at present,on offer appear to be “Business”,orientated. Why??.

What one is the best, and why. I am someone who will be looking at emails, and some attachements, whilst on journeys, is it worth it, and what one is best.
